I don't know about you, but after one of the rainiest months in the history of BC, I'm super excited to get out and enjoy some much needed sunshine and the sweet smell of spring. Unfortunately this time of year isn't so pleasant for everyone. According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, approximately one in six Canadians suffer from seasonal allergies. Seasonal allergies are commonly associated with a stuffy, runny nose, itchy, watery eyes, asthma, fatigue and reduced concentration and productivity. Medical guidelines recommend prescribing nasal cortisosteroid and anti-histamine medications, but 50% of people don't experience symptom improvement for longer than 24 hours. Wouldn't it be great if there was a non-invasive, long-term solution? Well, fortunately for you, we are excited to introduce a new non-invasive allergy desensitization treatment at the Family Health Clinic called BioEnergetic Intolerance Elimination or BIE.
What is BIE?
BIE is a desensitization method that decreases the body's reactivity to a substance you may be sensitive to. A trained practitioner uses the BioEnergetic Intolerance Elimination (BIE) device to transmit low frequency electronic waves into acupuncture points without the use of needles. The frequency emitted corresponds to the substance that the patient is allergic or sensitive to. Through this process, the body begins to adapt to the frequency and no longer reacts to the substance as a threat.
What can be treated with BIE?
BIE can be used to treat a variety of conditions including digestive issues, food intolerances and sensitivities, seasonal allergies, mold and fungal sensitivities, and skin conditions.
Are there side effects?
Side effects are rare, but may include an initial worsening of symptoms before improving as the body goes through an adjustment and detoxification period. More commonly, some patients notice increased fatigue, thirst, or urination following their treatment.
How long is a treatment and how many treatments will I need? The initial treatment is 60 minutes and subsequent treatments range from 30-60 minutes. Over the course of these treatments, many allergens may be addressed. The number of visits varies depending on the number of allergens treated, the strength of your immune system, the amount of physical and emotional stress on the body, the state of your digestive system and your level of hydration. It typically takes one to four sessions to clear sensitivities or allergies.
How quickly will I notice the effects? Many patients notice immediate results while others may require several visits.
How do I know if BIE is right for me? Naturopathic Doctors have many other tools to evaluate and treat sensitivities and allergies so it is best to speak to your practitioner for a tailored approach to your needs. Long-lasting results are easier to obtain by using BIE in conjunction with eliminating poor eating habits that may be suppressing a normal immune response and maintaining other healthy lifestyle practices.
